The One Prayer to Pray Every Morning-A request to God

Pray every morning - I remember thinking "Ahhh, my day will go well because I started with devotions." Ummm, not quite. Stress would threaten to slap me in the face before I could even get ready for the day. However, what it did do was give me a sense of security and strength to know that I was grounded.

Our trials were ones that threatened our marriage, our safety, our security, ourselves, our finances, and our very lives through indirect threats. They were heavy burdens we were carrying and trying to give to God to release; but they plagued us day after day. My mornings became my devotion times, and I started to pray every morning the same prayer.

After life threatened to strip away every positive worldly thing we clung to, we realized it was a chance to bear down and cling to our Rock. Never would I have imagined that we would have gone through so many trials that continuously stripped our hearts to a more refined state.

Morning devotions…

The thing that remained steady was that we knew we needed to look to Christ, so I made sure my focus in the morning was devotions. Now that doesn’t mean there weren’t some weeks that I didn’t do them, or that I was able to finish all of my daily reading plan. {At one point I was three weeks behind, another time a month and a half.}

The One Prayer to Pray Every Morning - Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22-23a

I even remember thinking, “Ahhh, my day will go well because I started with devotions.” Ummm, not quite. Stress would threaten to slap me in the face before I could even get ready for the day. However, what it did do was give me a sense of security and strength to know that I was grounded.

Pray every morning for wisdom…

I was following through a ‘Read Through the Bible in a Year’ plan, and I realized soon on that I needed to continually ask God for wisdom when reading to open my eyes and ears. It was nothing short of amazing!

At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

“[Solomon answered] …I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen…. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. …”

The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart.

1 Kings 3:5, 7b, 9a, 10-12

During a time that was wrought with emotional upheavals, our rock was The Rock and He was providing us wisdom to glean from His Word appropriately as we walked through each situation. Our eyes continuously unveiled as we walked with Him on life’s journey.

A gift of God…

No amount of studying alone could grant us the understanding needed (even partially) to correctly interpret the Bible, as it is through faith that it is revealed. Share on X

Any revelation we have ought to be attributed appropriately, it is a gift of wisdom from God. No amount of studying alone could grant us the understanding needed (even partially) to correctly interpret the Bible, as it is through faith that it is revealed. The disciples studied with Jesus Himself and yet the knowledge to understand was revealed by God.

…[F]or this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in Heaven.

Matthew 16:17b

It also translated to other areas in life, when challenging questions would come from my children’s lips, I began to stop and ask for wisdom with how to reply… unnaturally, I took an extra long pause as I was being taught to listen longer and then step in with a response. The ‘thought’ process was a gift; a request made to God for His will to be done with regard to my heart and my children’s hearts and I believe He honored those requests.

The responses I started to give were not my own, but they were leading our kids and me in a Heavenward direction; far from perfect of course, but in the right direction. While this references a different scenario, it still reminded me of this verse:

…[D]o not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

Matthew 10:19b-20

Before your devotions and before responding to people, just remember to pray every morning.

…[T]he Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 14:26

  1. That connection between personal wisdom and the truth found in God’s word is inseparable. There’s no substitute for the principles of Scripture, over and over, memorized and meditated.

  2. “Immerse yourself in the Word so it will be brought to mind throughout your day! Pray every morning for the gift of wisdom.” Yes, Yes, Yes! I love this thought. I want to always be immersed in the Word. To know that I am surrounded by God and all His promises. Thank you so much for sharing!
