A Certain Future is Guaranteed... For Some (Isaiah 59-66)
The future is bleak. The future is sure. The future is bleak. The future is sure.
Rewind that.
The yo-yo of human emotions can take us on never-ending cycles. This is why it is important to cement our foundation in the truths of the Bible. When our emotions tempt us away from the truth, the facts of the Bible can overpower the feelings so we cling to God instead.
The book of Isaiah just took us through the future promise of Jesus… without which we would all be doomed to an eternity in hell. And now, our future is looking brighter than ever with even more promises of what is to come!
It’s never too late to start!

This future belongs to you... maybe...
What may hold out for some as a promise of glorious inheritance holds a staunchly negative foretelling. The promises for us are curses for them.
How can this be? A lot of times God is questioned on this topic of why not everyone, or that it is very narrowly offered, as though He could be accused of selfish motives. But the thing to keep in mind is that we all have a choice.
We have a choice:
- who we serve,
- whether we seek Him,
- to live with God’s glory in mind for all situations,
- whether we believe in Him as our Savior,
- etc.
The choice is yours...
In all situations in life, we can default to blame others for our own choices. How easy is it to see their mistakes rather than take an accounting of our own?
So, too, Christians can be guilty of doing this with God. Yet, we see He calls it as it is. The truth is hard to hear, the Israelites often scorned the harsh realities the prophets would tell them.
The problem is that the truth needed to be told. A good hard look in the mirror can often break down hidden pride. The Israelites, instead, often decided to ‘shoot the messenger’ so to speak when the prophets were acting in obedience.
Our choices are our own...
God makes it very clear, consequences lie with those who choose to act in wickedness (in simplest form, those who rebel against the Lord).
So often, we live as though God won’t really see our motivations, our hearts, our actions, or our thoughts. Or too, that maybe He won’t judge us. If we are mostly good, we should be fine, right?
Oh, He knows! God cannot be mocked AND He knows us by name. There is no escaping judgment day for anyone.
The difference is which judgment seat we arrive at.
The promises...
The Bible gives many promises, but none so hopeful as Heaven and a new earth.
Seriously, nothing else compares. A new car that goes 0-100 in seconds? A beautiful house that’s showcased in magazines? 401Ks that you can retire off of in your 40s? Puh-lease.
(Is it wrong to have those things? No, but it’s a good wakeup call if they get you more excited than our future with God… or if you would be devastated should you lose an earthly item like that when we are called to hold the things of this world loosely.)
The things of life on this earth will not be remembered or even come to mind. Heaven is THAT awesome!
Sometimes, it is good to take a second and really ponder a specific verse. And this one speaks volumes into what we are about to enter into in the future!
The things of life on this earth will not be remembered or even come to mind.
The Great Commission... in the Old Testament?!
A common misconception is to think the Great Commission is given only in the New Testament, but at the end of Isaiah we find it was promised long ago. The Israelites were going to be called to go out into all the world to spread the good news!
Jews and Gentiles alike will hold the same honored roles.
This promise of the future is an open invitation, but one that few will take. We would do ourselves a great service to remember how the book of Isaiah starts and how it ends. He started out with his own commission of which he said “send me!”; now you and I are all a part of the greater commission of which you will say: ________________________.
Which side?
We know which side the Israelites took, and that few were righteous. We know God’s Word states that most of the world will follow the way of the world, and only a few will truly seek Him. Our future is coming fast whether we care to admit it or not.
Q
There are three types of people in this world: the world, the false Christian, and the true Christian.
Only one type is going to have a future in Heaven.
Which one are you?
If you are on the fence or unsure of your answer to that question, please be hasty in your quest to make yourself right with God and truly seek Him!
Do you live for HIS glory?
A motto that should fast to every area in our lives… why not grab a daily reminder to boast for Whom we live to please?
Soli deo Gloria!

Definitely holding on to the hope of heaven. Come quickly, Lord Jesus.
Thanks be to God that our times are in his hands–past, present, and future!
The prophets always remind me that faithfulness counts more than success.
We know the time is getting shorter whenever that is. I want to be less concerned about the things of this world and more concerned about the eternal destination of those around me. I have found myself praying more for people I know or suspect do not really know Him.
