Insider Hack: Living Water 1st unveiled in Creation (Psalm 104-110)
Look around you and focus on one part of the Created world. Even a blade of grass, as small and insignificant as it may seem on the surface, is a delicate living vegetation. It has multiple shades of color and an intricate system of photosynthesis works throughout it. The same can be said for water, as we look about the vast uses and capabilities of the water on this earth, we are pointed to a Creator. The Living Water can be easily recognized after we focus on actual water, which is everywhere.

The Beginning Books…
Hop on back to Genesis and Exodus to consider the many different stories in which water was used for God’s glory from the beginning of time:
- Creation,
- the flood,
- dry well Joseph was thrown in,
- plague on the Nile river,
- plague of hail,
- parting of the Red Sea,
- water from rocks,
- etc.
Not to mention, our physical bodies themselves are made up of approximately 50-75% of water (depending on age, type, size, etc.). An animal body may contain 50-95% of water (depending on age, type, size, etc.).
The Creation…
In the beginning:
- the water was first,
- then light (of which all life needs both),
- then separation of waters,
- next the gathering of waters to make dry land,
- then vegetation (made possible by the dry land and water),
- followed up with all the creatures in the sea, and
- all the creatures and Adam (made possible by the dry land and water).
Water is a vitally important element throughout all aspects of this created world.
A motto that should hold fast to every area in our lives… why not grab a daily reminder to boast of Our King!
Water on earth…
In these chapters of Psalms, water is brought up numerous times. In chapter 104, consider all of the references.
He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; He makes the clouds his chariot;
Psalm 104:3a
The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
Psalm 104:16
Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it.
Psalm 104:25-26
You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they took to flight. The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them. You set a boundary that they may not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth. You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills; they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches. From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.
Psalm 104:6-13
Water for those on the earth…
We are given another reminder for our lives on earth and how we should view the world around us.
Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; tell of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He uttered,
Psalm 105:1-5
Our days can become so busy that we hardly take a moment to sit and think. However, God uses that which is around us to continually remind us of Him.
Here, He gives us an even clearer imagery to remind us of Him. The Living water in which we are to look can be a continuous reminder throughout our days every time we see or use water.
Ocean – Tap Water – River – Rain – Drinking – Sweat – Hail – Watering Gardens – Snow – Feeding Animals – Washing Hands – Washing Cars – Bathing Kids – Cleaning – Washing Clothes – Ice cold drinks – Etc.
Opportunity to See…
Let’s not just float through life and miss this! He gifted us reminders EVERYWHERE we look! Are we missing this because our focus is on our own lives and the stuff in it?
Challenge yourself to see God in everything around you, see the Living Water as rain pours forth over the earth, to water our plants and give us food. See the Living Water whenever you grab your ice water on a cold day as sweat droplets form on your brow. See the Living Water when you’re doing household chores like dishes or laundry.
The opportunities are endless and everywhere! This is a form of seeking the Living Water; it is an active pursuit to be mindful of His presence in all aspects of your life.
Pointing us to the Living Water…
The Bible weaves together a physical reality for us to grasp in order to point us to more. It is as though God gifts us a fractional piece of beauty we are awed at, only to serve as a reminder for us that eternity holds the whole… Share on XThe Bible weaves together a physical reality for us to grasp in order to point us to more. We cannot comprehend the wholeness of God and His creations from our broken world.
Here, the waters an on the created earth point us to the Living Water.
Remembering is not enough…
Throughout the Bible there are some major themes of two-part commands: remembering and sharing, trusting and obeying. For the Israelites, they were commanded to remember this time AND share about it to their children so it would never be forgotten. Remembering was only the first step.
Remembering is part of training your minds to steadfastly be focused on God while you’re living in the world. Sharing is the active part of telling the good news. The best part? When you share, it helps you remember and reinforces the reason WHY you remember. It is a life-giving cycle for us to choose to see the Living Water flowing through our lives, those around us, and throughout all of Creation.
